Use these click paths as you work through WordPress. Menu labels can differ slightly by WordPress version. Keep your WordPress and payment-provider accounts secure, and never share secret keys in screenshots or support messages.
1Upload and activate the plugin
Download the RentalPlugin ZIP from your account and save it to your computer. In your WordPress dashboard, upload that ZIP and activate the plugin.
Click: Dashboard → Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin → Choose File → Install Now → Activate PluginOpen RentalPlugin from the dashboard menu. If a setup wizard appears, follow its prompts; otherwise open Settings.
2Set up your business
Enter the business details customers should see, select your currency and time zone, and set your opening hours. Choose when customers can book and how much notice you need.
Click: RentalPlugin → SettingsReview each settings section and save it before moving on. Add clear rental terms and customer-facing messages that fit your business.
3Activate your licence
Your licence key is emailed to the address used at checkout in an email titled Your RentalPlugin license key. It starts with RPL-. Keep this key private.
- Sign in to the WordPress dashboard on your own website.
- Open RentalPlugin → Licence & billing.
- Paste your key into Licence key and click Activate licence.
- Check that the status reads Active — email connected. Your website can now accept new rental bookings, and RentalPlugin booking email delivery is connected automatically.
Click: RentalPlugin → Licence & billing → enter key → Activate licenceYou can also enter the key during the setup wizard. If you already activated it there, you do not need to enter it again.
Monthly or yearly renewal: enter the key once. You keep the same key, and successful subscription renewals keep it active automatically. You do not need to re-enter it each month or year.
The licence is linked to one website. Contact info@rentalplugin.com if you cannot find your key, activation fails, or you need to move it to another domain. Reception staff do not need their own licence key.
4Add rental products
Create each item with a clear name, description, category, available quantity, photos and rental rates. Set daily or weekly prices and any deposit or optional charges you use.
Click: RentalPlugin → Products → Add NewCheck that the item is published and available for the dates you want customers to book. Preview the product page before adding the booking form to your website.
5Place the booking form on a page
Create or edit the page where customers should book. Add the RentalPlugin Booking block, or insert the shortcode below into a Shortcode block or your page builder’s shortcode element.
Click: Pages → Add New → add a Booking block → Publish[rentalplugin] displays the booking form.
For the staff reception page, use [rentalplugin_reception]. RentalPlugin creates a Reception page during setup; staff must sign in with a RentalPlugin Reception account to use it.
6Connect payments safely
Open payment settings and choose Stripe or SumUp. Start with the provider’s test mode and test credentials. Configure the webhook using the endpoint shown in RentalPlugin settings, then verify successful, canceled and delayed payment returns.
Click: RentalPlugin → Settings → PaymentsWhen tests pass, enter live credentials in the secured settings screen and run a small live test if your payment provider supports it. Do not put secret keys in page content or screenshots.
7Test the complete customer journey
Place a test booking on a staging site. Check date availability, price totals, taxes, confirmation emails, staff notifications, calendar entries and the customer’s return page. Repeat on a phone and desktop.
Before launch: test booking → payment result → confirmation → staff workflowKeep a backup and repeat these checks after major plugin, WordPress or payment-provider changes.
